Curriculum and Enrichment Offerings

CORE ACADEMICS

Our dedicated staff of teachers and specialists utilize proven methods to promote academic success for all our students. We provide a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that includes math, history, language arts, and science. Smaller class sizes allow for more individual attention from teachers. Special Education and Title I services are available to those who qualify.

RELIGIOUS LIFE

Our Catholic faith is integral to our daily life. We demonstrate our faith through daily prayer, regular religious teachings, weekly Mass, and Christian service to others. Parents can be assured that the Christian principles they teach at home are also carried throughout their child's school day.

TECHNOLOGY

Classroom computers, iPads, and two state-of-the-art computer labs provide Preschool-Grade 6 students with regular, supervised technology training. Our Media and Technology Specialist instructs students on fundamental technology skills such as word processing, graphic design, and safe Internet Use.

SPANISH INSTRUCTION

Students receive regular Spanish Instruction with a Spanish specialist. Students participate in Spanish beginning in Kindergarten and continue to build on their skills through the sixth grade. Lessons include Spanish Language instruction (the alphabet, numbers, words, and phrases) as well as lessons on Spanish culture and geography.

MUSIC

Preschool-Grade 6 students receive regular instruction from music specialists. Band and orchestra are available to students in grades 3-6. Guitar and piano lessons are also available through private instructors before and after school.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND TEAM ATHLETICS

Preschool-Grade 6 students participate in Physical Education classes. As a member of the Parochial Athletic Association, we offer team sports for young athletes beginning in Grade 5. Current PAA offerings include Soccer (co-ed), Girls' Volleyball, Boys' Football, Girls' Basketball, Boys' Basketball, Girls' Softball, and Boys' Baseball.

ARTS

Students learn to appreciate the arts with instruction and hands-on experiences in a variety of mediums. St. Katharine Drexel students also participate in annual "Artist-in-Residence" programs as well as art appreciation classes such as "Art Adventure" and Picturing America."

INSTRUCTION AND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS WITH DYSLEXIA

Additional coaching is available for students that find reading and spelling difficult. St Katherine Drexel is the only local elemetry school in which all teachers are certified in the Barton Reading Program.

iPads IN THE CLASSROOM

We understand reading for some students can be difficult. When taking a test in social, science and math, iPads can be used to help the student listen to the questions. In this format, the student can be tested on their actual knowledge of that subject instead of trying to decipher the words in the question itself.
